Team GB's Layla Black tells Sports Mole that her performance in the 50m breaststroke final sets her up nicely for the rest of the week at the European Games.

Great Britain's Layla Black has said that her performance in the women's 50m breaststroke final at the European Games in Baku should set her up nicely for the rest of the week.

Black finished fifth in the medal event this afternoon, posting a time of 32.21s to end up just 0.13s behind the podium places.

The distance is the least favoured of the three Black is taking part in this week, with the 100m and 200m events still to come, and the 14-year-old is happy with the start she has made.

"It went really well. I'm not usually a 50m swimmer, so to do well in the 50m sets me up well for the rest of the week," she told Sports Mole.

"[I've got the] 200m tomorrow and then 100m is later on. I like them both, but I think 200m [is my preferred distance] because I'm a bit better at it.

"First Europeans you don't really expect much. It's more the experience, to see what I can take into next year and hopefully see what I can do."

Black also said that she is happy with the progress she has made in her short swimming career so far, with her long-term goal being the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
