Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of day eight of the Olympic swimming.

There are four gold medals up for grabs at the Aquatics Centre tonight, and Team GB are in with a shot at all of them.

Fran Halsall is first up for the home nation in the women's 50m freestyle, and this could be her chance to land that elusive London 2012 medal. Dan Fogg also has a shot at the podium in the stamina-testing men's 1500m freestyle

Both the men and women's relay teams are in action in 4x100 medley relay events to round off what promises to be an intense evening in the pool.

9.02pmI'll be back next week to bring you all the action from the outdoor swimming events. Do join us then.

9.02pmWe may have fallen short of our medals target, but the future is bright for British swimming.

9.00pmThat's all from us here tonight, and that concludes the Olympic swimming at the Aquatics Centre. It's been fantastic! We've seen records tumble, shock results, and some promising performances from Team GB.

8.56pmA strong performance from Britain there too, which saw them finish in an admirable forth. Read our report here.

8.42pmJapan win the silver and Australia come away with bronze.

8.41pmThe US win it. Phelps bows out with another gold medal!

8.40pmPhelps puts his country back in the lead after a good fly length, and that's the last swim of his career! End of an era!

8.40pmPhelps puts his country back in the lead after a good fly length, and that's the last swim of his career! End of an era!

8.40pmKitajima of Japan gives his team the lead after the breaststroke leg, but the US have unleashed Phelps now!

8.37pmGreat start from Matt Grevers of the US and Tancock of Britain on the backstroke leg.

8.29pmThe men are up any minute now. The US are the red hot favourites in this, but with the likes of Liam Tancock and Michael Jamieson on our side, I think Britain are in with an outside chance of a medal here.

8.18pmThe US take the gold and break the world record, Australia claim silver, and Japan bag bronze.

8.16pmBritain are all but out of this going in to the butterfly length. Ellen Gandy really has her work cut out.

8.14pmGemma Spofforth leads Britain off with a strong backstroke length, but the USA's Missy Franklin comes in first.

8.00pmNext up, it's the women's 4x100m medley relay final. Team GB will swim in lane seven.

7.55pmSun smashes his own world record to take gold. Cochrane of Canada grabs the silver, and Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia nabs bronze.

7.49pmSun is going strong at the 800m mark. Still well ahead of record pace. Fogg is struggling far behind the pace-setters.

7.46pmThe men's 1500m is under way, and Sun Yang of China has set a swift pace. He's well ahead of world record. Park of South Korea in second, Cochrane of Canada in third.

7.33pmAliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus secures silver and Marleen Veldhuis of the Netherlands bags bronze. Halsall comes in fifth after a strong swim.

7.33pmKromowidjojo lives up to her reputation as the fastest women in water and takes the gold.

7.31pmMakes sure you don't blink during this one. It will be over in a heartbeat!

7.29pmThe 50m freestyle swimmers are poolside now. Holland's Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Jessica Hardy of the United Sates are the favourites in this one, along with Stef Britta of Germany.

7.27pmNews just in... Michael Phelps will be presented with a special award at the end of tonight!

7.22pmThe United States, who have ruled the pool at London 2012, are the favourites in both, but Team GB should not be written off.

7.20pmTo round off the evening, we have what promises to fiercely contested relay events with both the men and women involved in 4x100m medley relays.

7.16pmFogg is an open-water specialist, so he is no stranger to stamina-based contests. We consider him a dark horse for the podium in this one. Read about how he made it through here.

7.13pmStraight after the women's 50m freestyle is endurance testing men's 1500m event, and we have Dan Fogg competing in that.

7.11pmYou can read all about how Fran booked her place in this evening's final here.

7.10pmFirst up is Fran Halsall in the women's 50m freestyle. Halsall has performed well during London 2012, but is yet to secure precious metal. Tonight could be her big chance.

7.05pmGood evening and welcome to our live coverage of day eight of the Olympic swimming. Four finals are scheduled for this evening, and we're pleased to say that there is home interest in all of them.
