Great Britain's Ben Proud has said that "anything can happen" in the final of the men's 50m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.
The 20-year-old qualified fifth for the final, just over half a second behind Nathan Adrian of the United States, who was fastest.
The Commonwealth champion told reporters: "I'm glad I made it through safely. Going in fifth in such a tight race tomorrow, I know anything can happen. I need to take in a fresh mind, open to how anything goes and hopefully I'll get the race right."
Proud finished 18th in the same event two years ago.
