Jazz Carlin has thanked her family for their support after she took gold in the 800m freestyle final for Wales.
The swimmer explained how she missed out on the London Olympics of 2012 through illness, and said that she couldn't have achieved her success without the support of all connected to her after setting a new Commonwealth record.
She told BBC Sport: "I missed out on the London Olympics. I was really ill, I had glandular fever, and it was a really tough time.
"This year my coach left and moved to Australia so I have had to do a lot of it myself. But I have an amazing support team around me in Wales and my family and friends have been incredible. I couldn't have done it without them.
"When you have failures and tough times, it makes the highs so much better. It really is an emotional time."
The gold medal takes Wales's overall tally at the 2014 Games to 21 medals.
