Welsh swimmer Jazmin Carlin is hoping that the Glasgow Commonwealth Games can deliver a similarly partisan atmosphere to London 2012 after she missed out on competing at the Olympics.

A freestyle specialist, Carlin had a successful Commonwealth Games in Delhi at the age of 19, becoming the first Welsh swimmer for 80 years to win two medals at the event.

However, she missed out on London 2012 after battling with recurring tonsillitis and glandular fever. She now wants to experience a buzzing, home-style crowd up in Scotland.

"I'm hoping that the Scottish crowd will be nice to the Welsh swimmers!" she told Sports Mole at the Welsh holding camp in London.

"Missing out on London 2012 was really tough, but I'm obviously hoping that Glasgow will make up for some of those feelings that I would have got at London."

In Delhi she won silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 400m freestyle, and this year she wants to go one better.

"Obviously I'd love to be on top of the podium, but I'm just going to do the best that I can," she added. "I've had a great year's worth of training and racing so I'm hoping to build on that in Glasgow."

Carlin will be competing in the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle events in Glasgow - each disciplines for which she holds the Welsh record.
