Leon Smith: 'Resurgent Andy Murray among World Tour Finals favourites'

Andy Murray will head into the ATP World Tour Finals in the mindset that he can win the tournament, Great Britain Davis Cup captain Leon Smith claims.

Great Britain Davis Cup captain Leon Smith believes that Andy Murray is among the favourites to win the ATP World Tour Finals due to his recent strong form.

The 27-year-old heads into the season-ending event on the back of triumphs in Vienna and Valencia, which enabled him to qualify for the showpiece tournament at London's O2 Arena.

Murray will come up against Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic and six-time champion Roger Federer in Group B, yet despite the tough test that lies in wait Smith has no doubts that his Scottish compatriot will give it his all.

"Andy will certainly go in thinking he can win it," he is quoted as saying by Herald Scotland. "He has shown enough in the last five or six weeks to suggest he is getting close to where he has to be.

"He starts with Nishikori on Sunday and is also in with Federer and Raonic, and these guys are playing great. Just when you say the level can't keep getting better it does. Andy is one of the favourites, although Djokovic is obviously the outright favourite and rightly so.

"That will be the next stage for Andy, getting over the line against Djokovic. But it is something he knows he can do. I think 2015 is going to be great for him. He has got himself really back now, with a lot of hard work. He is fighting so hard on the court."

Bookies' favourite Novak Djokovic is in Group A, along with Tomas Berdych, Stan Wawrinka and Marin Cilic.
