Laura Robson has insisted that she will go into her second-round match against Petra Kvitova full of confidence following her straight-sets win at the Australian Open earlier today.

The 18-year-old proved too strong for Melanie Oudin, winning 6-2 6-3 to book her place in round two.

Kvitova made the final four at Melbourne Park last year but Robson believes that she will go into the match against the eighth seed with every chance of causing a shock.

She told reporters: "I'll go in with nothing to lose again. I seem to play pretty well when I do that.

"It's going to be tough, two lefties playing each other. I haven't played a lefty in a while, so I'm going to have to try as best I can.

"I can hit it pretty hard these days but I think the key is moving around the ball enough to get it to where I want it to go every time."

British interest in the women's singles in Melbourne is strong this year, with Heather Watson joining Robson in the second round.
