Maria Sharapova insists that she will "bounce back" from her Australian Open exit.

Former world number one Maria Sharapova has insisted that she will "bounce back" from her Australian Open exit.

The 26-year-old failed to progress into the final eight of the competition due to a 6-3 4-6 1-6 loss at the hands of Dominika Cibulkova.

"It's moments like this that ultimately shape you and make you who you are, and that's how you bounce back," the Sydney Morning Herald quotes Sharapova as saying.

"It's easy just to be successful, but it's how many times you're able to come back from the tough moments and losses and injuries that really define who you are as an athlete.

"And that's why I'm here, because I believe I still can be up there and certainly can play better, that's for sure."

Following her exit from the 2009 French Open, Sharapova has now lost to Cibulkova in two Grand Slams.
