Ekaterina Makarova has moved through to the Australian Open third round with a comfortable triumph over Roberta Vinci.
The 10th seed, a two-time quarter-finalist in Melbourne, ran out a convincing 6-2 6-4 winner to set up a last-32 clash with either Karolina Pliskova or Oceane Dodin.
Makarova, who made light work of An-Sophie Mestach in the opening round, wasted little time in establishing an advantage over Vinci, and although the Italian secured a break of her own, Makarova romped through the set by taking advantage of her opponent's second serve.
Vinci improved at the start of the second, but in the fifth game, she was broken for the fourth time in eight service games to leave Makarova requiring three holds of serve for victory.
The Russian had an opening for the double break but despite that chance passing by, she produced three near-perfect service games to secure her passage through to the next stage.
