Rafael Nadal has announced that he will not be participating in next year's Davis Cup.
The world number two, 25, has decided to skip the event to give himself enough time to rest in an already-busy calendar.
"Next year I will not play Davis Cup," he told reporters after helping Spain to win this year's trophy on Sunday.
"It's an Olympic year. I have been one of the players that plays the highest number of matches and I don't want to overplay.
"I want a coherent calendar. So, next year, my participation in the Davis Cup is impossible. Then we will think about the future."
Teammate David Ferrer, 29, also confirmed that he is permanently withdrawing from Davis Cup duty.
