Angelique Kerber has been knocked out of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells by Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor.
The world number six lost the second-round encounter 2-6 7-6(5) 6-4 on Saturday.
Torro-Flor, who is currently placed 72nd in the WTA rankings, lost the opening set 6-2, but then staged a comeback.
The 21-year-old took the second to a tie-break, which she won 7-5.
The Spaniard then held her nerve and stave off a fightback from fifth-seeded Kerber in the decider to clinch it 6-4 and wrap up the contest in two hours and 20 minutes.
