Tommy Haas has booked his spot in the third round of the Italian Open following a 7-6(6) 6-1 win over Dutchman Igor Sijsling on Wednesday.
The first set took a little under one hour to complete, with both holding serve confidently as the opener entered a tie-break.
It was Sijsling that took control, twice breaking his German opponent to move 4-1 ahead in the tie-break. However, Haas responded with three breaks of his own, the last of which secured the opener 8-6.
It proved more straightforward for Haas in the second, with the veteran securing three successive breaks to take the final set in just 26 minutes.
