Britain's Johanna Konta failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Italian Open on Thursday after losing to Misaki Doi in three sets.
The 24-year-old, who is ranked 23rd in the world, was on the losing end of a 6-4 5-7 2-6 result on the clay court in Rome.
Konta started the match strongly by nabbing an instant double break, and despite dropping serve, the Brit was able to maintain her advantage to take a one-set lead.
The second set did not go as smoothly as Konta lost serve three times in a row after going an initial break up against Doi.
Konta tried to recover with another double break, but the damage was already done, and her opponent forced the match into a deciding set.
The Brit squandered three break points in the third as Doi managed to come through and book a spot in the final eight.
