Victoria Azarenka moved into round three of the Madrid Open courtesy of a 6-4 6-4 win over Ana Ivanovic this evening.
Ivanovic had been widely tipped to provide the world number one with a stern test in the Spanish capital and she proved the previews right during the opening set.
The Serbian looked to be closing in on a one-set advantage when she broke Azarenka to lead by four games to two.
However, Azarenka responded by winning the next four games to claim the opening set.
That success appeared to spur on Azarenka, who broke Ivanovic's serve early in the next set to open up a two-game margin, before holding onto her own service game to take firm control of the encounter.
She wrapped up the 6-4 6-4 win by serving out to love.
