David Ferrer has reached the third round of the Madrid Open with a straight-sets victory over fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Seventh seed Ferrer was dominant at the start of the opening set as he moved into a commanding 4-1 lead. Ramos-Vinolas mounted a comeback after that to level things up a 4-4, but it was Ferrer who eventually came through 6-4 after converting his fourth set point on his opponent's serve.
It was a different story in the second, with the former French Open finalist breaking an overwhelmed Ramos-Vinolas three times on his way to closing out the match 6-4 6-0.
Ferrer will meet either Fernando Verdasco or US Open champion Marin Cilic in the next round.
