Home favourite Carla Suarez Navarro has booked her place in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open with a straight-sets win over Zarina Diyas.
After both women held serve comfortably in the opening four games, Suarez Navarro made the first break to go 3-2 in front, but Kazakhstan's Diyas hit straight back to level the scores.
However, Suarez Navarro again broke in the next game and this time consolidated before serving out the opener 6-4.
It was the same scoreline in the second, but 10th seed Suarez Navarro needed only one break to come through in just under 90 minutes.
Suarez Navarro will face either Marina Erakovic or Julia Goerges, both of whom are qualifiers, in the next round.
