Mikhail Youzhny has beaten Benjamin Becker in straight sets to seal his place in round two of the Madrid Open.
The Russian, who is seeded 15th, was rarely troubled in the opening set as he came through 6-3 against his German opponent.
Both players exchanged breaks midway through the second, but it was Youzhny who broke again before eventually serving out the match 6-4.
He will now face either Argentina's Federico Delbonis or Spaniard Feliciano Lopez for a spot in the third round.
