Andreas Seppi has booked his place in the next round of the Rogers Cup with a 6-4 4-6 7-6(4) win over Lukas Rosol.
Italian world number 23 Seppi landed the opening blow by breaking Rosol in the sixth game of the first set. Rosol hit straight back, however, restoring parity in the very next game.
It was Seppi who clinched the opening set in the end, breaking Rosol again in the final game to take it 6-4.
Rosol responded by breaking Seppi in the first game of the second set before serving it out to take the set 6-4.
Both players broke each other twice in the deciding set, while Rosol saved a match point to force a tie-break, which was eventually won 7-4 by Seppi.
Next up for Seppi is an encounter with either Canadian qualifier Peter Polansky or Japanese world number 11 Kei Nishikori.
