Roger Federer has progressed to the second round of the Swiss Indoors with a straight-sets win against Benjamin Becker.
The Swiss got the better of his German opponent 7-5 6-3 in one hour and 28 minutes on Monday.
However, Becker gave Federer a stiff competition in the first set and saved a number of break points, including a set point in the 12th game.
However, the 31-year-old Swiss eventually won the first set 7-5 and despite trailing at one point in the second, won it 6-3 with ease.
Federer finished the contest with seven aces and two double-faults and won 85% of his first-serve points.
Federer will take on either Thomaz Bellucci or Go Soeda in the second round.
