Roger Federer has seen off Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin in straight sets to become the first player to reach the quarter-finals of the men's singles at London 2012.

In a tough opening set, the Swiss top seed broke twice to take it 7-5 on Wimbledon's Court 1.

The second was more straightforward for the Wimbledon champion as he broke once to claim it 6-3.

Federer's win has seen him set up a quarter-final clash with either American 10th seed John Isner or Serbia's seventh seed Janko Tipsarevic.
