Andrea Petkovic has reached the second round of the US Open after fighting back to beat Caroline Garcia.
The German dropped the opening set before eventually prevailing by a 3-6 6-4 7-5 scoreline.
On paper, the match between the 18th seed and the talented Frenchwoman was arguably the most competitive tie in the draw, and it lived up to its billing as the opening two sets were shared.
Both players recorded a break apiece during the first 10 games of the third to set up a tense finale, and Petkovic may have thought that her chance had gone after missing out with a match point on Garcia's serve.
However, she earned herself a second opportunity, and this time she took it to move through to a match with Elena Vesnina.
