Maria Sharapova has been knocked out of the US Open after a 3-6 6-3 4-6 defeat to Italy's Flavia Pennetta.
The third seed struggled to get out of the blocks in the first set, and 26 seed Pennetta took her opportunity to win 6-3.
The Russian continued to labour in the second, but dug deep to turn it around in her favour and take it 6-3.
Sharapova's game was strewn with unforced errors, and Pennetta eventually won the decisive set 6-4 to book a place in the fourth round.
