Tsvetana Pironkova has toppled Venus Williams to progress to the Wimbledon quarter finals.
It was a largely one-sided match as the 31 seed overcame the five-time champion 6-2 6-3 in one hour and 15 minutes.
The scoreline echoes that of the pair’s encounter last year at the quarter final stage.
The Bulgarian will now face Petra Kvitova in the tournament’s final eight.
The result marks the third shock exit of the afternoon, following her sister’s loss to Marion Bartoli and top seed Caroline Wozniacki’s defeat at the hand of Dominika Cibulkova.
