Defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic safely progresses into the third round at Wimbledon courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino.

World number one Novak Djokovic has sealed his place in the third round at Wimbledon courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino under the roof on Centre Court.

The Frenchman held his own for large parts of the contest, but in the end the defending champion proved too strong for his opponent on his way to a 6-4 6-3 7-6(5) victory.

It could have been a lot different had Mannarino taken advantage of two break points in the very first game of the contest, but Djokovic survived and didn't give the world number 55 another sniff in the opening set.

Mannarino stuck with him almost all the way, but Djokovic got the all-important break in the final game to take the opener 6-4.

That was part of a five-game streak for the Serbian, who quickly raced into a 3-0 lead in the second set to take complete control of the contest.

Again, the one break proved to be all that was needed for the three-time champion at SW19 as he gave just four points away on his own serve to take the second 6-3.

Things weren't quite as straightforward in the final set as Djokovic was forced to draw on all of his fighting spirit to save five break points in the second game, before eventually sealing it and seemingly ending Mannarino's slim hopes of launching a fightback.

Another Djokovic break put him on the verge of victory, but when serving for the set he dropped his first service game of the match as Mannarino kept his chances alive at the last, forcing a tie-break.

It was only a temporary reprieve, however, as Djokovic won the breaker 7-5 to set up a third-round clash with either Thomaz Bellucci or Sam Querrey.
