British hope James Ward has booked his spot in the second round of Wimbledon with a 4-6 6-0 3-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Pablo Andujar.
The British professional was dominated by his Spanish opponent in the early stages of the clash and was forced to relinquish the first set after Andujar sweeped over the grass court with a number of impressive forehand and backhand shots.
Despite a strong start to the contest, it was Ward who managed to force through a comeback in the second and draw level on sets without Andujar picking up a single game.
The match turned on its head once again in the third set with Andujar fighting back to win the set and force through a fourth.
Once again Ward was able to produce some impressive tennis on the grass court to take an important break of serve and clinch the fourth set, leaving a final set to decide the outcome of the first-round clash.
Ward lost his serve in the fifth to trail 3-0, and it looked all over. However, he rallied to secure three breaks of his own to book a spot in the next round.
