Weightlifter Gareth Evans has won Wales's first gold medal of the 2018 Commonwealth Games with victory in the men's 69kg division this afternoon.
Evans was successful with all three of his attempts at the snatch, producing a best of 136kg - level with India's Deepak Lather and one kilogram below Indika Dissanayake Mudiyanselage of Sri Lanka.
It was the clean and jerk which set Evans apart, though, as he recorded a personal-best 163kg to pull clear of his closest rivals.
Evans was unsuccessful with an attempt at 165kg, but his second effort proved to be enough as he ended with a total weight of 299kg - two more than silver medallist Mudiyanselage and four above bronze medallist Lather.
Evans also competed at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games four years ago, but only managed fifth place on that occasion.
