A Sochi worker has suffered two broken legs and concussion after being hit by a sleigh while he was doing maintenance work at the Winter Olympics bobsleigh arena earlier today, it has been reported.
The employee was at the Sanki Sliding Centre before the first heat of training to repair a light, before being reportedly hit by an empty forerunner sleigh.
The training for the two-man bobsleigh event was delayed for half-an-hour as the worker was tended to and eventually taken to hospital.
"We are not sure yet how it happened," Thomas Bach, the head of the International Olympic Committee, said in a statement. "He is to undergo surgery and we will, of course, continue to monitor his situation and wish him well.
"The information we have so far is that he suffered two compound fractures in the legs but he arrived conscious at the hospital. We are continuing to monitor the situation.
"Our medical director is getting in touch with the medical services, we've been in touch with the organising committee and the international federation but, so far, we do not have any further information."
Canadian skier Yuki Tsubota was stretchered off the Rosa Khutor piste two days ago after falling heavily during the Olympic skiing slopestyle final, and was tended to by a team doctor.
