European wrestling silver medallist Aleksei Shemarov has admitted that he wasn't prepared enough to win gold in the men's 125kg freestyle category.

The Belarus athlete lost to Turkey's Taha Akgul in the final, and is frustrated with his performance.

He told reporters: "He beat me because he was better prepared than me. He really wanted to win much more than I, and I could not control the match. Today he is a four-time European champion and top ranked in his category.

"But of course it is possible to overcome him and to do that I should have prepared myself better."

Shemarov scored Belarus's 19th medal of the Games.
