Defense guides Detroit Lions to victory

The Detroit Lions earn their second win of the NFL season with a 19-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field.

A strong defensive display from the Detroit Lions guided them to a 19-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers this evening.

The Lions got off to the perfect start in the game when Packers running back Eddie Lacy fumbled the ball and cornerback Don Carey capitalised as he returned the ball all the way for a touchdown.

Green Bay took their time to level the scores but Aaron Rodgers eventually got his team back on track as he moved them inside the 20 and then found tight end Andrew Quarless in the endzone.

An interception of Matt Stafford proved to be a positive for the Lions despite them losing possession as Davon House made the grab on his one-yard line. The next play Lacy was decked in his own endzone, which resulted in two points for the home side.

Nate Freese then added a field goal to further extend the Lions' lead, but he missed late in the half to prevent his side taking an eight-point advantage into the break.

In the second half, both defenses showed great skill and determination to hold out against two of the best offenses in the NFL in a scoreless third quarter.

However, in the fourth quarter Detroit made their move to extend their lead when Reggie Bush found space over the left side of the line and he sprinted into the endzone from 26 yards out.

Green Bay had one late chance to get back into the game but Rodgers's pass to Jordy Nelson in the endzone on fourth down fell incomplete, allowing the home side to hold out for the victory.
