Daniel Sturridge is dropped by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for tonight's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dropped striker Daniel Sturridge from the starting XI in tonight's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund in Westfalenstadion.

The 26-year-old, who was visibly upset at being substituted during last weekend's 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, has been handed a place on the bench.

Divock Origi will take Sturridge's place up front, while Roberto Firmino, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury in the last few weeks, has been named among the substitutes.

Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno will play either side of centre-back pair Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho, while Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and James Milner will sit in midfield.

Klopp, who is returning to Dortmund for the first time as an opposition manager following his departure from the German club last year, has selected Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho to provide attacking threat alongside Origi.

As for Dortmund, Mats Hummels has returned to the defensive line after missing last weekend's Bundesliga game with a calf strain, while Sokratis has also been passed fit.

Ilkay Gundogan was thought to also be involved after taking part in training earlier this week, but the midfielder is not in Thomas Tuchel's squad.

Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Bender, Hummels, Schmelzer; Castro, Weigl; Durm, Mkhitaryan, Reus; Aubameyang
Subs: Burki, Sahin, Ginter, Leitner, Pulisic, Sokratis, Kagawa

Liverpool: Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno; Henderson, Can, Milner; Lallana, Coutinho, Origi
Subs: Ward, Toure, Smith, Allen, Ibe, Firmino, Sturridge
