Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney give Manchester United a 3-0 advantage at the halfway mark of their match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United are on course to end their five-game winless run in matches against Tottenham Hotspur as they lead the North London outfit 3-0 at the break.

Despite the healthy lead, Louis van Gaal's side almost got off to a nightmare start when Phil Jones's heavy backpass forced goalkeeper David de Gea to slide in and clear the ball away from goal.

The hosts were soon in front as Michael Carrick slid the ball into Marouane Fellaini and the Belgian drilled low across goal into the corner with his left foot on eight minutes.

Ten minutes later, their lead was doubled and this time Carrick was the scorer with a well-placed header into the far corner after Nacer Chadli had only been able to direct Fellaini's header to the Englishman.

United were having plenty of joy down their left-hand side and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wasted no time in making a change by taking off Andros Townsend for Mousa Dembele on the half-hour mark.

However, it was soon three when Wayne Rooney pounced on Nabil Bentaleb's lazy pass and drove past the Spurs defence before finishing low past Hugo Lloris.

After a video surfaced of him being knocked out in a kitchen by fellow footballer Phil Bardsley, Rooney light-heartedly celebrated by falling to the ground as if he had been floored.
