Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Portsmouth will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches when they face Bolton Wanderers in League One on Tuesday.

The visitors are also enjoying an impressive spell of form after winning seven of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Match preview

Having lost just two of his opening eight games in charge of Portsmouth, John Mousinho will be satisfied with the start that he has made in his first managerial job.

The most recent of those defeats took place against Plymouth Argyle on February 11, but since that result, Pompey have collected seven points from a possible nine.

In their most recent outing, Portsmouth raced into a three-goal lead inside 26 minutes against Cheltenham Town thanks to strikes from Ryan Tunnicliffe, Michael Jacobs and Ronan Curtis.

Louis Thompson added to their tally in the 91st minute to wrap up a comfortable 4-0 win, which extends their unbeaten home run to four matches.

With 12 points separating them from the top six, mounting a playoff push appears to be out of Portsmouth's reach, but they will want to better last season's 10th-placed finish, which is where they are currently sat ahead of Tuesday's contest.

Meanwhile, Bolton will be looking to claim a third consecutive win after beating Accrington Stanley and Port Vale in the EFL Trophy and League One respectively.

The 2-0 win over Accrington secured Bolton a place in the EFL Trophy final, where they will play fellow League One promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle at Wembley.

Another victory followed at the weekend, as Bolton came from behind to beat Port Vale 2-1 thanks to goals from Victor Adeboyejo and Josh Sheehan.

Bolton, who currently sit in fourth position, will be targeting the automatic promotion places with six points separating them from second-placed Plymouth, who have played a game less.

With the top two in their sights, Ian Evatt's side have the chance to close the gap to three points in midweek, and after beating Portsmouth in both the EFL Trophy and the league last month, they will be confident of claiming another win against Tuesday's opponents.

Team News

Jay Mingi, Clark Robertson, Zach Swanson, Tom Lowery and Marlon Pack are unlikely to feature for the hosts due to injury issues.

Reeco Hackett was unavailable for Saturday's win over Cheltenham, and he remains a doubt for Tuesday's encounter.

Despite coming off the bench to score in stoppage time, Thompson may have to settle for a place among the substitutes once again, with Mousinho expected to name an unchanged lineup.

As for the visitors, they will be without the services of George Johnston, Jack Iredale and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Adeboyejo, who was cup-tied for the EFL Trophy semi-final, returned to the lineup on Saturday, and he will retain his place in the side after getting on the scoresheet.

The 25-year-old is likely to be joined up front by Bolton's top scorer Dion Charles, and he will be aiming to add to the 14 league goals that he has scored this season.

Portsmouth possible starting lineup:
Macey; Rafferty, Raggett, Towler, Ogilvie; Tunnicliffe, Morrell; Dale, Jacobs, Curtis; Bishop

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Trafford; Toal, Ricardo, Mbete; Bradley, Sheehan, Morley, Williams; Dempsey; Shoretire, Adeboyejo

We say: Portsmouth 1-1 Bolton Wanderers

Although Pompey have already lost twice to Bolton this season, none of those defeats took place under Mousinho's watch and after improving under their new manager, we think that they will frustrate the Trotters by holding them to a point on Tuesday.
