David Henderson has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after illegally organising the flight which killed Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson.

Sala had been making the journey from France to Cardiff in January 2019 after joining the Bluebirds in a £15m transfer from Nantes.

However, the plane that the Argentine and pilot Ibbotson were travelling on crashed into the English channel, the wreckage and Sala's body being discovered two-and-a-half weeks later.

Last month, Henderson was found guilty on a number of charges, including endangering the safety of an aircraft with Ibbotson not possessing a licence to pilot commercial flights, nor the certification to fly at night.

On Friday, Henderson was sentenced to 18 months in jail, commenting that the 67-year-old had breached regulations "for reason of profit", and was "reckless, not merely negligent".
