Robert Alford returned an interception for a touchdown in overtime to guide the Atlanta Falcons to a 25-19 win over the Washington Redskins to maintain their 100% record in the 2015 season.
The Falcons had early success moving the ball, but their drive was to end when Matt Ryan was intercepted by Trenton Robinson as he overthrew his deep pass for Julio Jones. However, the visitors could not capitalise on the mistake in a scoreless first quarter.
Washington took the lead early in the second when a gamble on fourth down and one in the redzone paid off as Kirk Cousins got the necessary yardage to keep his side's drive alive. The quarterback then found Derek Carrier in the endzone for a four-yard score.
Matt Bryant got his side on the board with a field goal from 42 yards and the Falcons had another chance to reduce the deficit.
However, Ryan committed his second turnover of the game when his side were in good field position as he was sacked by Jason Hatcher and the Redskins recovered the ball.
The home side got the ball back again just before the break, but Bryant failed to fire his kick between the posts as his effort from 38 yards struck the post.
Bryant missed another field goal after the break when his kick from 48 yards smashed off the upright and bounced to safety for the visitors. However, Redskins kicker Dustin Hopkins suffered the same fate on his side's next possession as his kick from 53 yards missed the target.
The Falcons got into gear on offense and took the lead albeit in slightly fortuitous circumstances when Devonta Freeman rushed towards the endzone, but fumbled the ball, only for Julio Jones to recover for the touchdown.
Washington hit back to retake the lead immediately when Cousins manoeuvred his side towards the goalline before he handed the ball off to Matt Jones, who powered through the line for the touchdown.
Hopkins added a field goal for the visitors to hand them a four-point lead with two minutes to play, leaving Ryan time to lead a potential game-winning drive.
The Falcons quarterback engineered a drive which allowed Freeman to run in for the score to hand the home side the lead with 24 seconds to play.
However, Cousins put his side in the range of Hopkins and the kicker sent the game into overtime as he nailed his kick 52 yards.
In overtime, despite his solid performance, Cousins made a crucial error when his pass was intercepted by Alford, who ran the ball back for the game-winning touchdown.
