Aaron Rodgers is pleased with the emergence of the Green Bay Packers running game this season, with the team averaging the third-highest yards-per-game in the NFL.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has admitted that he is pleasantly surprised at how well the team is running the football.

Injuries to several key players such as Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jermichael Finley meant that the Packers were expected to struggle as an attacking force, but the emergence of Eddie Lacy and return of James Starks has allowed them to remain strong.

With 141.1 rushing yards per game, the Packers rank third in the entire league on the ground.

Rodgers told ESPN: "Every team is different. I didn't really expect this type of production from the run game this year, but here we are.

"We're sitting in the top five in yards per game rushing the football. That definitely takes a lot of pressure off of some holes we've had to fill in the passing game because of our injuries."

The Packers host NFC North rivals the Chicago Bears next Monday night.
