England's Greg Rutherford happy to debunk "one-hit wonder" jibes

Greg Rutherford says that his gold medal-winning display in the long jump is proof that he is not a "one-hit wonder".

England's Greg Rutherford believes that his gold medal in tonight's long jump at the Commonwealth Games proves that he is not a "one-hit wonder".

The 27-year-old produced a winning distance of 8.20m to beat South African duo Zarck Visser and Rushwahl Samaai in silver and bronze respectively.

Rutherford also leapt to gold at the London Olympics two years ago, and the "super happy" Milton Keynes local is delighted to have emulated that triumph in Glasgow.

"It's never an easy road and after what happened last year with injury I wasn't sure if I could carry on jumping. Now I've won another title," he told BBC Sport.

"I think a few people had written me off thinking I was a one-hit wonder. But I'm here again and will be here again many more times.

"I'm super happy. I want to keep going out there jumping far and winning medals."

Rutherford's first-place finish took Team England to 37 golds at the Games, three clear of Australia in the medal table.
