Former 100m champion Dina Asher-Smith was knocked off her perch by Daryll Neita at the 2022 UK Athletics Championships in Manchester.
The 26-year-old - who recently confirmed that she would be competing in front of the home crowd at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games - was forced to settle for silver on the day.
Asher-Smith flew out of the blocks before Neita - who took Tokyo Olympic bronze alongside her compatriot in the 4x100m relay - responded to win with a time of 10.8 seconds in windy conditions.
Asher-Smith finished with a time of 10.87 seconds to clinch the silver medal, with Imani Lansiquot (11.03) in third, and there was also a surprise result in the men's 100m race.
European silver medallist Reece Prescod started the race as the clear favourite, but Cardiff's Jeremiah Azu ran a terrific race to win the gold medal with a time of 9.90.
Second-placed Prescod was close behind with 9,94 as Zharnel Hughes finished third with 9.97, but the blustery conditions meant that national records were off the table.
Elsewhere, Tokyo 2020 1500m silver medallist Laura Muir won her first British title in the event since 2016 by finishing nearly five seconds clear of Melissa Courtney-Bryant, posting a 4:12.91.
