Peter Siddle has responded to claims from James Anderson by insisting that the England bowler hates sharing post-match drinks with the opposition.

Anderson revealed earlier this week that Australia had rejected the invitation to meet in the dressing room for a drink following England's 169-run victory in the first Ashes Test in Cardiff, but Siddle admits that he was surprised by his rival's comments.

"It's my fifth Ashes series and it's the first time anyone's gone to have a drink after one Test," he told reporters.

"It's an interesting story, especially from Jimmy considering at The Oval last time we had a drink and he said 'I don't know why we do this. I can't stand it'. So, interesting comments, but you know what Jimmy's like.

"I've never had a drink [with the opposition] until after the last match, and I don't think anything's going to change here."

Siddle could replace Mitchell Starc if the seamer fails to recover from an ankle injury before the second Test at Lord's on Thursday.
