Australia close day four of the first Test against India on 290-5 to open up a 363-run lead in Adelaide.

David Warner helped guide Australia to 290-5 at stumps on the fourth day of the first Test in Adelaide to build up a 363-run lead for his side.

The opener resumed the session on 68, eventually reaching 102 to record his second century of the match and put the Baggy Greens in command.

Having taken India's last five wickets for 75 runs earlier in the day to leave the tourists' first-innings total standing at 444, Australia powered on through Warner before he was sent packing by Karn Sharma.

Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith added vital runs to stretch the lead beyond the 300-run mark, although the debutant leg-spinner was caught on the ropes for 40 off 26 balls.

Smith managed to see out the session on 52 not out alongside Brad Haddin (14*), leaving Australia in a strong position at the Adelaide Oval ahead of day five.
