Stuart Broad says that he is ready to step up and lead the England bowling attack in the absence of James Anderson, ahead of the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

Stuart Broad has said that he is ready to step up and lead the England bowling attack in the absence of James Anderson for the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

The Nottinghamshire player is one wicket away from taking 300 Test scalps, and it is expected that he will reach the milestone on his home ground this week.

Anderson has been ruled out of the match with a side strain, but Broad has warned Australia that the England bowlers will still be a major threat without their talisman.

"It is important that I do not apply too much pressure to myself," he told the Daily Star.

"But it will be important that the bowling unit continue to talk proactively in this game as that is what Jimmy and I do naturally. I will have to be a bit more conscious of that this week and take the lead myself."

England, who currently lead the five-match series 2-1, will regain The Ashes with victory in Nottingham.
