Alastair Cook refusing to get carried away

Alastair Cook says that he will not allow his England team to get ahead of themselves during the ongoing Ashes.

England captain Alastair Cook has insisted that he has not allowed himself to get overly excited by his side's start to this summer's Ashes.

Yesterday's 347-run victory over the Australians at Lord's put the hosts 2-0 up with three matches left to play.

It has left many pundits to suggest that they could go on to record a series whitewash, but Cook has been adamant that the team are only focused on the next Test at Old Trafford.

"It's certainly too early to talk about [a whitewash]," Cook told reporters. "You only have to look at our dressing room to see how hard we've had to work to win these two games. You can think all you want about that, but we know how hard it is going to be the next few games.

"We won't be taking anything for granted or taking our foot off the gas. We won't be looking past the first hour at Old Trafford. That's not the way Andy Flower works and that's not the way this England side works."

The third Test will get underway on Thursday, August 1.
