Alastair Cook: 'England were outplayed by Sri Lanka'

England captain Alastair Cook admits that England were "outplayed" in their second one-day international against Sri Lanka, resulting in an eight-wicket defeat.

Alastair Cook has admitted that England were "outplayed" with the bat, ball and in the field during their one-day international defeat to Sri Lanka earlier today.

The tourists were beaten by eight wickets in Colombo, having also lost the opening match of the series earlier this week.

The captain told BBC Sport: "I'm not sure whether I made the right decision at the toss. The pitch got a little bit easier to bat on, but that wasn't the total reason for the result.

"Sri Lanka outplayed us in all three aspects today. They put us under a lot of pressure with the ball and we kept losing wickets. You end up having to try stuff in the field [with a low total to defend] and you know you have to keep fielders up and that gives class players the chance to hit boundaries.

"Things haven't quite fallen for us and it will be good to get out of Colombo and start again. We've got some really good players in our team but we've got to start playing well."

Ravi Bopara was England's top scorer with 51 as the side was bowled out for 185.
