England recover from 20-2 to reach 116-3 at the close of play on day three of the first Test against the West Indies in Antigua.

England have opened up a 220-run lead over the West Indies at the close of play on day three of their first Test in Antigua after reaching 116-3 in the second innings this evening.

Having bowled the West Indies out for 295 just before tea, the tourists began their second innings with a 104-run lead over the home side, but got off to a sluggish start in the evening session.

Jonathan Trott added just four before he was dismissed by Jerome Taylor, while captain Alastair Cook followed just a couple of overs later for 13, reducing England to 20-2.

Ian Bell made a confident start at the crease, but he failed to spot substitute fielder Devendra Bishoo at fine leg, resulting in a run-out for the first-innings centurion.

The West Indies thought that they had Joe Root lbw late in the day too, reviewing a decision after the umpire gave the batsman not out off a Dinesh Ramdin delivery, but the review did not show enough to see the decision overturned.

Root and Gary Ballance looked settled in the middle as they brought up a 50-run partnership before stumps, reaching 32 and 43 not out respectively at the end of the day.
