Phil Taylor confesses that he is 'fighting for his career' following his worst ever start to a season.

Phil Taylor has confessed that he is 'fighting for his career' in his bid to reach the Darts Premier League playoffs.

'The Power' picked up a European Tour victory on Monday when he defeated Michael van Gerwen in the German Masters final, while he also beat the world number one in last week's Premier League.

Taylor is now unbeaten since week five in the competition following his worst ever start to a season, and takes on Gary Anderson in Manchester tonight looking to maintain his recent form.

"I'm fighting for my career, to see if I can get back to world number one and world champion one more time, but my main objective is to get to the Premier League playoffs," the 53-year-old is quoted as saying by PDC.tv.

"I've got to improve on Thursday against Gary. In my opinion, Gary is one of the best players I've ever played against so this is a massive game for me. I want to get to the playoffs and he's in my way, so I'm focusing on him and only him.

"I'm a big fan of his and when he hits his doubles he's virtually unbeatable, and I know how to play him and what I've got to do - play out of my skin and average 110 to put him off!"

Elsewhere at the Phones 4u Arena, Van Gerwen takes on Dave Chisnall and Raymond van Barneveld comes up against Adrian Lewis.
