AC Milan vice-president Adrianoi Galliani says that Massimiliano Allegri was joking when he said that he might quit in the morning.

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has said that Massimiliano Allegri was joking when he claimed that he was considering his future following the Rossoneri's qualification to the Champions League.

A 3-0 victory at the San Siro last night secured a 4-1 victory on aggregate, putting them into the hat for the group stage draw in Monaco later on today.

Reports recently claimed that Allegri would be sacked if Milan should fail to qualify for the group stages, and after the game he revealed that he was angry with treatment from the media.

"I can assure you it was a joke [to say he was considering quitting] and he sent me here to inform you of that," Galliani told Mediaset Premium. "Let's not create controversy out of a joke.

"It is evident this was clearly the most important game of the season. Tonight it was a turning point, gave sense to our great comeback which we earned two minutes from the end against Siena.

"I told the lads we couldn't throw away something that we fought for from January to May. We were all very tense, but we did it and are in the group phase of the Champions League."

Milan lost their first match of the Serie A season to Hellas Verona on Saturday evening.
