Jeremy Menez has given AC Milan a 1-0 half-time lead after winning and scoring an early penalty against Torino.
It took Milan just three minutes to find a breakthrough as Menez fired home from the spot after winning a challenge under pressure from Kamil Glik, despite there appearing to be minimal contact.
Torino responded well to the early setback, but Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez protected his side's lead with a couple of fine saves to deny Alexander Farnerud and Fabio Quagliarella.
The Milan defence struggled to deal with set pieces throughout the first half, and Emiliano Moretti almost took advantage when he headed just past the post from a corner.
Torino continued to threaten in what would prove to be a frustrating opening 45 minutes for the hosts, and Matteo Darmian came closest to finding the equaliser when he struck the post with a powerful header.
However, the hosts were given a boost in added time when Mattia De Sciglio was shown a second yellow card for a late foul on Darmian.
