Cesare Maldini has passed away at the age of 84.
The Trieste-born defender spent much of his playing career with AC Milan, for whom he made over 400 appearances.
During his stint at San Siro, Maldini won four Serie A titles and the club's first European Cup in 1963.
He also had a two-year spell as the head coach of the Rossoneri, during which time he guided the club to success in the Coppa Italia and European Cup Winners' Cup.
The father of Milan legend Paolo also managed at two World Cups - with Italy in 1998 and then South American outfit Paraguay four years later.
