Aaron Ramsdale returns to Arsenal training ahead of Sevilla clash

Arsenal goalkeeper has returned to training after being absent for Saturday's 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

The England international was unavailable for the clash at Stamford Bridge after his wife, Georgina, gave birth to their son on Friday.

As a result, Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein featured on the bench as David Raya's deputy for Saturday's contest, where the Gunners fought back from two goals down to clinch a point.

After missing out at the weekend, Ramsdale is set to return to the matchday squad for Tuesday's Champions League meeting with Sevilla.

The 25-year-old took part in Monday's training sessions, indicating that he will be available for the midweek trip to Spain.

While Ramsdale is likely to feature in the squad, it remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will change his goalkeeper for the Champions League clash.

Ramsdale played a key role in Arsenal's title challenge last season, keeping 14 clean sheets in 38 Premier League matches.

The Englishman retained the number one spot for the opening five competitive matches of the current campaign, before losing his place to summer arrival Raya.

Since being dislodged by the Spaniard on September 17, Ramsdale has made just one appearance, recording a clean sheet in a 1-0 EFL Cup win over Brentford.

However, there have been calls for Ramsdale to be restored to the lineup after Raya experienced a shaky display at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old was caught off his line for Mykhaylo Mudryk's mishit cross, which ultimately found the net to give Chelsea a two-goal lead.

Following the draw, Arteta was questioned by reporters after the Arsenal supporters sang Ramsdale's name at Stamford Bridge.

"Great. I love him, I will sing every day for him," the Arsenal boss said at his post-match press conference.

"We sang a lot for him yesterday because he was a father which is the most beautiful thing to do. I'm so happy he has this charisma and personality and is someone who is very loved around the team."

Ramsdale has admitted that his place in Gareth Southgate's England squad will come under threat if he is unable to displace Raya in the Arsenal side.
