Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka received yet another red card in the Gunners' EFL Cup semi-final first leg with Liverpool at Anfield.
Mikel Arteta's side welcomed the Switzerland international back to the starting lineup for the Merseyside encounter after his recovery from COVID-19 infection.
However, Xhaka - who has hit out at his perceived unfair treatment when it comes to discipline - was deservedly sent off for a dreadful challenge on Diogo Jota in the first half.
Andy Robertson's long ball found the chest of Jota, but so did Xhaka's boot, and the former Borussia Monchengladbach man trudged down the tunnel immediately.
In response, Arteta opted to take off Eddie Nketiah and bring on Rob Holding, with Arsenal all backs against the wall in their bid to keep the tie alive before next week's second leg.
The Gunners also lost right-back Cedric Soares to an apparent hip injury within the first 10 minutes, as Calum Chambers replaced the Portuguese.
