Fulham looking to end 11-year winless run against Arsenal

Fulham will attempt to end an 11-year winless run when they play host to Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

Marco Silva's side are currently targeting European football after picking up 39 points from their 26 league games.

The West London side head into Sunday's encounter in eighth place with three points separating them from Liverpool, who are currently residing in fifth position.

After enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions, the Cottagers were brought back down to earth by Brentford last weekend.

Goals from Manor Solomon and Carlos Vinicius could not prevent Fulham from falling to a 3-2 defeat against their West London rivals.

Fulham will be looking to return to winning ways against the Gunners, but their recent head-to-head record suggests that may be easier said than done.

Since claiming a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in January 2012, Fulham have gone nine meetings without picking up a victory.

Seven of those nine matches have ended in defeat, including the reverse fixture in August when Arsenal came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Aleksandar Mitrovic gave his side the lead in the 56th minute, but the Gunners quickly equalised through Martin Odegaard, before Gabriel Magalhaes snatched all three points with an 86th-minute winner.

While the hosts will be desperate to end their 11-year wait for a Premier League win over the Gunners, they may be content with picking up a point, having lost their last four home meetings against Sunday's opponents.

Hopes of a victory may also be dampened by the fact that the Cottagers have lost 16 of their last 18 league games against teams that have started the day top of the table.

However, they can at least take confidence from their recent form at Craven Cottage, having avoided defeat in their last four competitive home matches.

If Fulham are to trouble Mikel Arteta's charges then they may look towards Solomon, who has been in impressive form in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old has scored in each of his last five appearances across all competitions, with four of those goals coming in the Premier League. body check tags ::
